Indian Summer

I am super jazzed to share with you Nitasha and Navin's wedding, shot by the talented and uber friendly Portland-based wedding photographer, Aaron Courter. Nitasha booked a dual session bridal makeup for her big day, the first look to match her red ensemble in the a.m. and a smokier eye for the evening.

I can't get enough of that beautiful white stallion that Navin arrived to the ceremony on below! To drool at more details of the couple's three-day Indian wedding extravaganza, check out Aaron's blog post here...

Unless you have been avoiding fashion magazines and fashion show reports these past few months like an office cold, than you probably already know that ORANGE is back again for the summer season. Does this shade only give you sour memories of Aunt Gertrude's date night pucker? It is time to see this Popsicle hue in a new light- think of it as an extension of the sun to your pout and most importantly, the lipstick does not make the lady, the lady works that lipstick!
If you slowly want to ease your way onto this side of the spectrum- here are my suggestions from sheer, glossy, to pop. Coral tones tend to be safer while red-oranges are for those who want to really stop traffic. Always prep with a lip balm first to avoid an "orange peel" look that should be avoided:

TAME...Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in "Oversized Orange"- $16

FLIRTY...Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in "Sweet Orange"- $14

FUN...Nars Lipstick in "Barbarella"- $24

Like Mother, Like Daughter

From the floor of my parent's old bedroom, I had the best view of my Mom performing her daily makeup routine from the edge of her bed. I can vividly still see the cosmetics strewn about and the particular angle her face was to see her reflection in the tiny compact mirror she held. The precise eyeliner, those perfectly anchored eyebrows, and the rouge lips came together effortlessly...watching my Mom get ready as a young girl was nothing short of hypnotizing.

Of course my curiosity got the best of me and led me to "borrowing" her fancy Chanel eye shadow quads and colorful lipsticks and sneaking them into my bedroom to replicate what I saw in her "W" magazines or to practice on my girlfriends for Prom. She never nay say-ed my personal experimentation, even when I wore muddy brown lips like the other middle school girls did or dyed my hair shades of a peacock. To this day, she is still very much a beauty maven and one of my biggest supporters. Cheers to my Mom for instilling my color addiction and for never limiting my creativity...Happy Mother's Day.

Spring has finally sprung here in Portland and Kelty and Hannah of The Weaver House have done it again with this delightful portrait session with Sharon and her mega-watt smile. Sharon brought her own sassy style to the table and it is definitely making me rethink my wardrobe. As she rarely gets to "color up" (as Hannah would say) at her day job, Sharon was eager to let me play with my palette.

Cheers to Spring! Sorry allergies, you are not welcome to this party.
