Like Mother, Like Daughter

From the floor of my parent's old bedroom, I had the best view of my Mom performing her daily makeup routine from the edge of her bed. I can vividly still see the cosmetics strewn about and the particular angle her face was to see her reflection in the tiny compact mirror she held. The precise eyeliner, those perfectly anchored eyebrows, and the rouge lips came together effortlessly...watching my Mom get ready as a young girl was nothing short of hypnotizing

Of course my curiosity got the best of me and led me to "borrowing" her fancy Chanel eye shadow quads and colorful lipsticks and sneaking them into my bedroom to replicate what I saw in her "W" magazines or to practice on my girlfriends for Prom. She never nay say-ed my personal experimentation, even when I wore muddy brown lips like the other middle school girls did or dyed my hair shades of a peacock. To this day, she is still very much a beauty maven and one of my biggest supporters. Cheers to my Mom for instilling my color addiction and for never limiting my creativity...Happy Mother's Day.

Mom circa 1970-something.
